Situation…
This opportunity to work on an original AAA action IP was exciting and rewarding in equal measure. When I joined the design team for a short internship, we were considering options for implementing ‘random’-feeling encounters to the game world that would essentially operate as mini quests.
The solution had to be sympathetic to the workload of the code and art departments, with minimal implications for bespoke assets.
Task…
- Design and prototype a scalable system for modular encounter quests
- Write incidental dialogue for characters
- Playtest and contribute ideas for tutorialising the combat system
- Prepare a presentation document compiling and analysing the opening sequences of Rebellion’s games to date
Action…
I took direction from the Lead Narrative Designer and Quest Designer to draft multiple hypothetical encounters using yEd graph editor to map out player choices and their impact on the world and story. I considered the overall thematic premise of the world when ideating content proposals for characters, quests, consequences and rewards from these incidental random encounters. This included writing dialogue and some example voiceover direction to add vibrancy to the final presented ideas.
Result…
As a recently announced title, details of results in this case remain under NDA.
